WELLINGTON A v. FERN FLATS.

The Dominion gives the following Tfinort of the match : Teams. —Wellington A—E. Williams, Clark, P. J. Grace and Johnston. Pern Plats—Rickman, H. J. Cameron, A. Cameron and Coleman. Wellington had a handicap of 6 goals and Pern Flats 16 goals. The game opened with hard purposeless galloping and great keenness on the-part of Fern Flats. Wellington scored aii easy goal through Clark’s agency. In the next- spell Clark’S' hitting was a feature, as Johnston’s had been in the first spell. In spell three, Pern Flats, as the result of a free hit Williams, scored, but this was later followed by a tricky goal by Clark. Welling-, ton at this stage were working hard, but it was evident Fern Flats were after the cup, and determined with their big handicap, that if they could not score they would prevent their opponents doing so. In the fourth spell Coleman scored Fern Flat’s second goal, hut Clark for Wellington, retaliated with another, and Grace with yet another. Several times in the next two spells Wellington had chances, hut their strokes went askew. However, goals were scored by Johnston and Clark, and at the conclusion Wellington bad thus raised their total of goals to 8, and Fern Flats, through the agency of Cameron and Coleman to 4. Wellington held their opponents hard pressed at the finish, all the team playing a bard game. Fern Plats showed decidedly improved form, and, with their heavy handicap and staunch ponies, should have a chance of holding the cup. The result of the same was: —Wellington A, handicap 6 goals, scored 8, total 14; Fern Flats, handicap 16 goals, scored 4, total 20. |
