A CHARGE AGAINST A CANON.

' Inquiries show that the accusations against Canon Nash, known as No. 2 charge, rest entirely on a statement made by Canon Bardsley, who was vicar of Huddersfield when Mr Nash was curate there, to the Bishop of Lichfield and others which possibly reached Dr. Moule, Bishop of Durham. Dr. Moule now calls these statements hearsay rumours, and Canon Bardsley has written on the subject as follows “Asa matter of justice and honour with the evidence now before me, I cannot confirm my statement to the Bishop’of Lichfield. ’ ’ Nevertheless Archbishop Clarke as he holds written statements in connection with No. 2 charge, which is an accusation relating to Canon Nash’s conduct towards lady members of Canon Bardsley’s family, the gravity of which justifies his refusal to reinstate Canon Nash as incumbent of Christ Church, Geelong. The vestry of Christ Church, Geelong resolved to give its loyal support to no other nomination but that of Canon Nash, unless documentary evidence was produced to alter its decision.
