SHOOTING.

RANGITIKEI RIFLE ASSOOIATION. Representatives from neighbouring Volunteer Corps and Rifle Clubs assembled on the Balls range on. Saturday to take part in the second annual meeting of the above Association, and, although the attendance did not reach the expectations of the committee, still, the respetcable number of 50 faced the targets to pit their skill against the strong variable ”7 o’clock” wind blowing. The shooting was not of a high-class order, the highest score oi the day being 38 off the rifle. The winner of the aggregate off the rifle, Rifleman Kiernan, made the respectable score of 31 at 700 yards, Yol. Bolk, Manchester Rifles, being second with a good 29. However, if the shooting was poor, the exact opposite can be said of the marking, which was prompt and accurate. The Secretary (Mr W. J. Oroucher) was asked to do too much, and it is hardly fair that a man who competes should have to undertake all the secretarial work on the day of the shooting. Needless to say it was well done, but a little assistance would, no doubt, be a boon to an over-worked official. The teams match was devoid of interest, Manchester Rifles, Saudon-Ohakea aud Turakiua Clubs beiug the only entrants. One member of the latter did not shoot at all ranges, spoiling their chance, leaving Manchester Rifles easy winners by 11 points. Conditions were seven shots and one optional sighter at each range.
