A ROYAL DIVORCE.
JEALOUS PRINCE. Oldenburg, February 8. Another royal divorce is imminent. £Grand Duke Frederick Augustus of Oldenburg threatens to divorce his wife, the Grand Duchess Elizabeth, because the Diet has for the second time refused to deprive her of the right to be regent in case of the Grand Duke’s death. The Grand Duke is sixty. Elizabeth, who is Empress of Mecklenburg, was born August 10th, 180!). The quarrelling couple have a son, ten years old, who will succeed phis father on the Grand Ducal throne, and, according to the Oldenburg laws the mother of the hereditary prince acts as regent as long as the boy is under age. This law the Grand Duke has asked the Diet to set aside in favour of a prince of SchleswigHolstein. Eat the Diet has twice refused, unanimously to adopt the Bill proposed by his Royal Highness. Meanwhile the Grand Duchess’s popularity is growing apace with the ill-treatment to which she is subjected by her husband. Whenever she appears In public friendly demonstration prove the people’s love and loyalty to her, while the Grand Duke is treated with ill-concealed contempt.
