THE OPIUM QUESTION.
REDUCTION OF BRITISH IMPORTS.

The announcement is made that Pekin and Britain have agreed to an experimental decrease in the importation of opium for a period of three years, to see whether the cultivation of the poppy and the number of opium smokers will be lessened. In that case the importation will be decreased annually. A decree has been issued in Pekin with orders that further measures be taken to deal with the evil.
