J. Shivas who competed unsuccessfully at the Marton Sports had a turn of luck at the Masterton St. Patrick’s Sports held on Thursday last. He won the 100, 220 and 440 Yards Handicaps. Referring to his wins, the Wairarapa Age says the performance was a very fine one. He showed a turn of speed on the treacherous track which was little short of amazing. The official time given for the final of the 100 yards was 93^secs —an almost incredible achievement on a sloppy track, although Shivas was on the three yards mark. The three cycling events all fell to J. Harman—a ever sterling performer. The programme of the Utiku Sports, which will be held on Easter Monday, appears on page seven. The Utiku Handicap (three distances) is worth £24 15s, and a gold medal for points prize. There are several axemen’s competitions, whilst the horse jumping events are richly endowed with prize money. The programme as advertised should provide an enjoyable day’s outing, and be productive of good nominations. Entries for handicaps _ events are due on Saturday, April 4th,_ with the Secretary (Mr OrviHo'Randle) at Utiku.
