PROTECTION OF INFANTS.
Press Association. Wellington,, March 16. There was a largo gathering this afternoon of ladies and others at the Town Hall, including the Hon. G Fowlds, Minister of Health; Dr Mason, Chief Health Officer; the Hon. Dr. Collins, M.L.0., ; and other representatives of the medical profession. The gathering was held under the auspices of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, and was held to further the movement inaugurated by Dr. Truby King for the protection of infant life. It was decided to call nurses employed by the Wellington Society the". “Lady Plunket Nurses” in honour pf'iHer Excellency Lady Plunket, typo is taking such a keen, interest fed an active part in fur thering the objects of the Society Lady Pinuket addressed the meeting, urging the need for the improved feeding of infants and the better attention to mothers and prospective mothers. Drs. Mason, Collins, Young, and the Hon. G. Fowld-s also delivered addresses, the doctors pointing out what a large proportion of infantile mortality is preventibletbeing due to improper feeding and ignorance generally on the part of mothers. The need for a purer milk supply was emphasised by most of the speakers.
