ATHLETES ABROAD.
NEW ZEALAND REPRESENTATIVES IN SYDNEY.

Keen interest centred in the athletic meeting at University Oval, which was tho outcome of tlio challenge; of tho Neve Zealand team which recently visited Hobart to tho University'Athletic Club. Tho weather was fins and the attendance large. Owing to the short notice, the students wore hardly in as lit condition as they might have been, but they were not placed at a groat disadvantage, as since leaving Hobart tho.'Now Zealanders have spent the time holiday making.
Of the eight challenge'?, the visitors succeeded in annexing three events. Much disappointment was felt at Trembath not starting _ in tho halfmile race, as a meeting between him and Barker over that distance, after Barker’s defeat at Hobart, had been keenly anticipated. Barker was in great form, his time being lit seconds for the ‘3OO yards, which is an Australasian and probably a world’s record. Trembath made a run-a-way match of the mile, winning easily. _Orbell won the high jump, clearing sft Tin He subsequently tried to clear otft llj-din, with a view to beating the Australian record, but his three attempts failed. A feature of meeting was McKay’s exhibition of pole vaulting. He cleared 10ft bin and tho bar was raised to lift. In attempting this jump the polo broke, and he came a nasty cropper, but escaped with little, damage. Results: 100yds Challenge.—Nigel Barker (N.S.W.) 12, Henderson (N.Z.) 3. Waddell 8. Won from start to finish bv three vards. Time, 10 3-ssec. Fisher g (N. Z.) was entered but was left ou the mark.
100yds Handicap.—McKay (N.Z.) 1, StewartS, Henderson (N.Z.) 3. From the 10 yards mark McKay easily accounted for his heat and final. Time, 10 3-10 sec. 300yds Challenge,—Barker 1, Trembath (N.Z. )3, Rowe 3. Other New Zealand starters were Murray, Fisher and Henderson. Barker shot oft the mark full of vim, and going to the front lengthened his margin at every step, and won easily by a dozen yards. Time, 31 sec—an Australasian record. High-Juran Challenge. Orbeil (N.Z. ), sft tin, Welsh sft 6in 2; Buddy, sft siu 3. 130yds Hurdles Challenge.—Stewart (N.S.W.) 1, Murray (N.Z.) 2, Orbeil (N Z.) 3. Won by sis yards. Time 16sec—a New South Wales rceord.
Broad Jump.—Stewart, 31ft: 1 ; Barber, 20ft lin 3. Half-mile Challenge.—Barber 1, Murray 2, Fitzhardinge 3. Barker hung behind until about 50 yards from home when, making a strong sprint, he beat Murray by five yards. Trembath and Fisher did not start. Time, 2.5. Mile Race Challenge.—Trembath 1, Waddy 2. The Now Zealander kept in a good position behind until the last quarter. Then,_ gradually moving to the front, lie did a splendid sprint over the last 250 yards, winninggeasily by 15 yards. Time, 4.55. Mile Walk.— Kerr (N.Z. ) 1, Stubberfield (N.Z.) 2. Two Sydney men started but gave up at the end of half a mile. Kerr was' in splendid form and won easily by 60 yards. Time, 71. 1-5.
