A little more than .a furlong from lionia Waipahu suddenly stopped and was hopelessly in the rear when she pot going again. Dear Dully was out by herself at the straight outranoo and romped home on her own, with another gap between second and third. Time, lujin -Usee.
Mou Ami was installed favourite for the Matavawa Hack for Iwhich Waikaraka, Carissima. Kareroa, Taitoko, Contour, Yosami, Vasa, aud Miss Vera also went to the post. Vasa (Finland —Parora), who was ridden in winkers, hopped off smartly, aud led from cud to end, winning comfortably by two lengths. The winner is trained by Alf. Shearsby. The stewards were summoned together immediately but postponed inquiry until after the Jackson Stakes was run, in which one of the horsemen concerned was engaged to ride Mr BidwelPs colt Gravitation. After the classic race, the stewards again met aud suspended R. Hatch, rider of Dear Dolly, and T. Carroll that of Splendid Idea for the rest of the meeting.
Gravitation, Irish Rifle, Helen Portland, Banyan, Gleuculloch aud Millionaire, the two latter bciug bracketed, comprised the field for the classic event—Jackson Stakes, six furlongs. Millionaire was quickest to'begin, followed by Irish Rifle aud Gravitation. Going on to the homo bond Irish Rifle aud Millionaire were out iu'frout abreast two lengths clear of Gleuculloch and Gravitation, who were also together. Irish Rifle led into the straight, but Gravitation quickly overhauled him and in the run home the latter drew away aud won comfortably by a length and a half, with Glonculloch a length further back. Then came Millionaire, Banyan, and Helen Portland. Time, Imiu 15 3-ssec.
Six faced the starter in the Fordell Hurdles, which proved one' of the most exciting finishes ever seen on the Wanganui course. Claremont, closely attended by Pantaloon, led over the first round and past the stands, where Gachuca, Maui and Moeraki were abreast some three lengths away, Oassiopea a long |way in the rear. On the honie turn Claremont and Pantaloon were still in charge abreast, with Cachuca and Maui moving up. Claremont was well clear of Pantaloon in front entering the straight, and at the distance looked all over a winner, hut Maui came wit!i a rush, and;after an exciting finish got up on tire post and won by a neck, with three parts of a length between second and third, and Pantaloon only a neck further back. Time, limiu 17sec. ‘ Aoraugi was sorted out as the “good thing’’ for the Okoia Hack Hurdles, but succumbed at the finish to Immolation. Bagatelle and English made the running until about three furlongs from borne, where Immolation went to the front. Aoraugi gave chase hut Immolation had still a couple of lengths to the good at the last fence but ran it down badly and unintentionally interfered with Aoraugi. Immolation won somewhat' comfortably by two lengths. The Wanganui Stakes of SOOsovs., 1 % miles, was won by Mr J. H. Prosser’s Marguerite, by Stepniak— Hugenot, 8.(5,. (L. Wilson); • 7 F.
