A new invention recently patented, the “Springbok heel,” has been put through a searching test at New Plymouth. Dr Leatham, Aledical Superintendent at the New Plymouth Hospital, Lieut-. Colonel E. N. Okoy, and Sergfe. Haddrell, of the Police Department, have reported upon the invention after three months’ test. Tho result in each case is a flattering tribute to the invention. After pointing out the comfort experienced in walking by using this pneumatic cushion, and also the benefits to be derived from its use they conclude by strongly recommending its adoption. In tho first innings of the last test match, the English captain ordered his last men" to throw away their wickets with the object of getting the Australians in before the ground improved. Commenting on his action a critic says “Jones’s sin is that he did the unusual, and the unusual with a great number of well-mean-ing persons is something to be condemned. Jones was there to win the game for England if he could. He did something strictly within the rules of the game to attain that end. He did it very clumsily—Barnes’ run out made the game farcical—but to get out was of more advantage to his side, or he thought so, than making runs. And if you make runs to win why shouldn't you stop making them if you feel that is more likely to bring about victory? One may argue this way for a week, and yet rejoice that Jones was tho loser in the long run. The rules are with him, hut sentiment is not. Jones potted the white.” Pearson’s Pepto-chlor dispels that fear of taking food by curing indigestion. All chemists Is, 2s Gd and 4s. The hist seven days of Lloyd’s Great Sale.
