[Owing to caudles being upset part of the timbering of the mine was burnt and a number of men were thus shut into the workings by falls. ] Received March 7, 9.1 a.m. Loudon, March 6, The position of the men entombed in Hampstead Mine is considered hopeless. Welshy, one of the Barnsley rescuers, was provided with breathing apparatus, but collapsed aud died owing to the oxygen becoming exhausted.
