THE TRENTHAM MEETING. ~ Press Association. Welington, March 6. Shooting started this morning with the 800 yards Volunteer and Rifle Clubs’ Matches. The weather opened tine, but there were heavy gusts later on which upset many calculations. , King, Christchurch, who had bo at the previous two ranges put up jp making his total 96. beating Eden’s score of the previous night and winning the match. In the Club Match Franklin’s score of :©6 -was not beaten. No good scores were put up at 800. As showing how difficult the shooting was the Australian cracks, Mac Alley and Edwards, made 20 and 12 respectively. - . SG Murphy, Timaru .. . . 86 All who made 92 and under received £1 each. The Auckland Match, ranges 200, 500 and 600 yards, and Utago Match, 10 shots at 800 and 900 yards is now going on at 200 yards. In the Canterbury Match two possibles were put up, H. Hawthorne and McLeay, and a lot of 34’s. When the 500 yards was completed H. Hawthorne and Drummond, Dannevirke, were leading with 66, anl several others close up. Daring the fire at 500 and 800 yards there were strong gusts of wind, and as a result poor scores were made at 800. The best scores at the lunch adjournment in the Auckland Match were : —H. Hawthorne 95, Needham 92, Fisher 92, Masefield 90. In the Otago Match at 800 yards the completed scores are :— Reynolds, Christchurch, 45; Holdaway 43, Johnston, Owaka, 43.
