RANGITIKEI ELECTORATE.
Sir,—l agree with your correspondent Pioneer that it is quite time we knew who was going to contest the Raugitikei seat against Mr Remington. i-;But with all due respect to Mr J. W. Marshall I think it would be worse than useless to put him, or any other man lidding his conservative ideas, into the field. I take it for granted that if we bring a candidate forward we want to have at least a reasonable chance of success. We live in an age of progress and the politician who will succeed in New. Zealand to-day must he a supporter of progress. To my mind what"\ve want to oppose Mr Remington, is a liberal minded oppositionist, or better still an independent, who will support progressive measures. Pioneer says Mr Marshall is reliable, sound on the laud question, and would not put up with any socialistic humbug. This may he wholly or partly true, hut I understand that he does not support the prohibition of the liquor traffic and other such progressive measures now on the way. lam aware that these are matters that are thought of little account by mauy of our Opposition party, but I would like to draw their attention to the fact that at last election a considerable majority voted prohibition, and it seems to me that the party that chooses to ignore these facts will go to the wall.—l am, etc., . FARMER.. Upper Tutaenui, March 3rd.
