AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. Press Association. —Copyright, ! Received March 1, 9.28 a.m. Hobart, February 29. There was a very large attendance at the opening of the Athletic Championship Meeting. The weather was dull, but fine. At the close of the day’s proceedings New South Wales had scored three champions, New Zealand two, Tasmania one. Owing to the Press being kept at a considerable distance from the running track they were not able to give a satisfactory description of tho racing. Results: — 100 Yards.—Barker 1, Morgan 3, Fay 8. Won by six inches. Time, 10 1-5. Mile Walk. —Kerr 1, Stubberfield 3, Smith 3. Won by ten yards. Time, 7.38 3-5. Running High Jump.—Orbell, sft. lOin., 1; Maher, sft. 9in., 2 ; Scott, sft Sin./' 3. Orbell jumped beautifully, and it was thought he would equal the record of sft 113Jiu., hut he failed to do so. Mile Run.—Oleines 1, Burrowes 3, Retford Sharp 3. This was a groat go, Burrowes leading till nearly home, when Olemes put in a fast run and won by less than a foot, the others close up. Time, 4.38. 120 Yards Hurdles.—Stewart and Davis tied in the final, and are to run off on Monday. Murray won his heat in fine stylo, hut could not pace with the others. Time, 1 1-5. Putting the Shot.—O’Reilly 38ft. : 10in., 13; Kearey, 35ft. liu., 3; Maher, 34ft. Din., 3. 440 Yards. Barker 1, Davis 3, Fisher 3. Barker led at tho start, hut was displaced by Davis and Fisher. When within 100 yards of homo Barker put in a capital sprint, and won easily, three yards between the second and third. Time, 51 sec. Davis’ time was 51 l-osec. Tho first two men receive special badges for running tho distance under tho standard time. Mile Walk Handicap.—Ford (Tasmania), 30sec., 1; Rose (Tasmania), 2050 e., 3; Stubberfield, 10sec., 8. Won by a yard, 15 yards between second and third. Time, 55.44.

Received March 1, 5.17 p.m. Sydney, March 1. Sydney University Athletic Club has accepted a challenge from the New-Zealand athletes now in Hobart to a match on tho Sydney University oval on March 11th.
