ROOSEVELT AND LABOUR.
Press Association —Copyright. Received February 24, 10.22 p.m. London, February 24. 1 The New York correspondent of The Times states that President Roosevelt has again stirred the country by means of a letter requesting an inter-state commerce commission to investigate labour conditions affecting railway employees and the possible reductions of wages. Some interpret this as an attempt to secure for Mr Taft the labour vote. Others believe it is a wise move for the prevention of strikes. It is apparent that the railways are facing conditions wherein they must reduce the number employed or cut wages.
