The Feilding Friendly Societies Council last night donated a guinea to the funds of the Manchester Baud for services rendered at the recent picnic. Donations made to the joint secretaries were handed over by them to the Manchester Band and Palmerston Hospital. It was decided to procure a silver shield for competition among the Lodges during the coming winter in a card tournament. The Coal Creek School picnic was held on Wednseday last, when both parents and children had an agreeable outing. Messrs Cocks (chairman), London, Lingard, and Hall managed the sporting part of the programme and ‘several ladies kindly assisted at the tea. The Feilding Mounted Rifles, 88 strong, have been working hard since Wednesday last at skirmishing, squadron drill, and outpost duty. Yesterday the corps were At the range, where there is plenty of room for any movement, and did not return until 4 o’clock. After the evening meal military sports were held, the members of the corps only competing . who had not previously won prizes. Colonel Bauchop will inspect the corps to-day, and on Wednesday camp will be broken. Capt.
