MASTERTON NEWS.
Per Press Association. Masterton, February 22. The drought'.still continues, but with some little prospect of rain. A large staff of men is engaged in cutting a new race at head worts of the Masterton water supply by which the river is to be turned direct into the water tower to augment the present supply. Work js expected to be completed within three weeks. The bee industry is in a thriving condition and it is anticipated that the quantity of honey exported this season will be in excess of the previous years. At Masterton Police Court to-day Ernest Yaughan alias Dyer, was charged with having forged a cheque at Christchurch on December 7th last purporting to be drawn by Thomas block, and having uttered the same ,to Joseph Dobbs. Accused was arrested this morning and was remanded to Christchurch. There is considerable opposition to the proposal to remove the Show ground to Solway, a portion of which is being offered to the Association by a syndicate.
