THE SCULLING COMPETITION.

Per Press Association. Wanganui, February 20. There is nothing new to report concerning the sculling championship. Both men are actively continuing the usual, training operations. “Victor” in the Herald discusses the chances of the contestants and says “I do not think Dick Tresidder will return to Australia as champion of the world. In build the Newcastle man looks like a champion, especially when seen stripped as he has stout arms and legs and a powerful back. Seen on the water he does not fill the eye "so well. So [far as style goes he does not swing his body with his sculls but keeps almost a straight back and is faulty with his right arm. There is a stiffness about his movements which is in marked contrast to the life shown by Webb, who .uses his arms, legs, slide and body much more scientifically than does Tresidder. There is no getting away from the fact that Dick drives the boat along, and that 'he will row a hard game race right to the finish is beyond doubt. In my opinion he lacks brilliancy. Webb who can stay as well as Dick or any other man who ever sat in a boat and 'that extra dash will, I firmly believe, give the Wanganui man an advantage. It ought to be a hard struggle, which will probably end in a win for Webb. The latter has the advantage of being nine years younger, 28 against 37. Even if all things else were equal, that is to say if Tresidder had as much science as Webb, I fancy youth would be served or as Stanbury put it after his defeat by Webb “age must bow to youth. ’ ’
