England commenced a return match against New South Wales today in fine weather and on a good wicket. The visitors made a poor start, having three wickets down for 25. Hutchings and Hardstaff, for the fourth wicket, put on 80. Hutchings shaped brilliantly. He gave a chanceat 45. Young played his best innings of the tour. He gave no chance. Jones was missed no less than three times off Minnett. The latter’s seven wickets for 181 was a splendid performance for a colt’s first appearance in big cricket. Scores: — ENGLAND—First Innings.
