The authorities hinting %at the distance- of an Act of Charles 11., Prohibiting more than ten people to approach Parliament with a peti82n, Mrs Pankhnrst. Miss Kenney, and 11 others, in order to challenge its enforcement, left Oaxton Hall for St. Stephens. They declined to and ten were arrested. ThSy were disappointed because they were notSprosecuted under that Act, but merely charged with obstructing and resisting the police. , Mr Gladstone- stated that Suffragettes can leave prison when they choose to give sureties. Received February 15, 8.3 a,m. London, February 14. In the House Of Commons Mr Gladstone stated that last year when Suffragette offences were first offences he made representations hoping that leniency would prove effective, but leniency had been used for the purpose of encouraging further' offences. It was no part o his duty to constantly interfere with the discretion of capable experienced stipendiaries who it fairly in the public interest.
