MARION JUNCTION IMPROVEMENT.
Yesterday, at the Martdn Junction a deputation, consisting of. Messrs F. Piirnell (President of the Chamber of Commerce), F. R. H. Brice (vice-president), J. A. Bush and F. G. Carson, waited on Mr T. Ronayne, General Manager of Railways, and heads of branches, to obtain information with regard to the contemplated improvements at Marten Station. The deputation was informed that the permanent improvements had not yet been settled, bnt extensive alterations were under consideration and the department had already started to put down more lines on the north side of the yards and intended to erect a large verandah on the Hun terville side of the platform so that the station would be under one roof. All through and local traffic would be amply provided for. The Department had no intention of erecting engine sheds at Kakariki, bnt it was proposed to alter the grade of Greatford hill at a cost of about £BOOO and. this would do away with an etxra engine on the mail train going north. They had now Under consideration the question of a suitable water supply for Marton Station aud no doubt an attempt would be made to get artesian water in the vicinity of the Junction. The chief authorities are to confer on this matter. The matter of housing engines at the Junction entirely depended on the new time-table. The deputation asked that a weigh-bridge be supplied at the Junction and the manager replied that if the traffic warranted this expenditure an order would be sent Home for one.
