THE ARBITRATION COURT.
Per Press Association Dunedin, February 13. At the Arbitration Court to-day the metal workers dispute was heard, Mr Breen (representing the workers) said that practically all the conditions of the work were in dispute except the clause dealing with the status of machinists. The _ union asked for an eight hours day, instead of 48 hours work a week and for an all round increase of wages for holders up in furnace or boiler work ; Is lj£d per hour. The employers’ representative (Mr Scott) advocated a uniform award for the whole of New Zealand, so that all employers would be ou'an equal footing. S After evidence had been hoard it was agreed, at the suggestion of the President, to hold a conference regarding the whole question, and to report to the Court on March 2nd. lu the engineers’ dispute Mr Scott said the employers were willing to a.ccepb the Auckland award, but Mr Breen said the Union had several objections to that award. It was agreed to hold another conference with a view of settling the dispute on the lines of the|Auckland award.
