PRESBYTERY OF WANGANUI.
- I The Presbytery met yesterday for stfdinary business in the Presbyterian Church, Mar ton. Present; RfcVS; Gv Budd (Moderator), Morton, Rybsrn, Hutson, Ross, Jolly, Gordon, Hall, Gunn. Evans, and McOully, ministers; Messrs R. Wilson, T. G. Graham-, McDonald, Bishop, P. Bell, A. Thomson, McFarland and Fraser, elders Messrs T. W. Graham and D. O. Herron, students, were also present.The following cOunisssions being in order were sustained in favour of Messrs A. McDonald, James Bruce, J. McFarland, T. Gh Graham, E. Bishop and J. Fraser. Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs-Bruce and Scott. Messrs Ross and Gordon were appointed a committee to draw up.-a memorial minute re Rev. James {Duncan, deceased. i The Presbytery carried a motion of "sympathy with Mr Evans of Bulls in-’tiie Ibss of one of his children. A' committee was appointed |to meet'Mr John Ross, somof the Rev. John-Ross, who is about to'enter the Theological Hall. McCully and Hutson re-ported-on the great success* of the Home Mission School lately held at Turakina. The missionaries carried a resolution highly appreciating the thoughtfulness of the Presbytery in arranging the school, whiohf was read to the Presbytery. They also expressed the hope that the' school may become a permanent institution. General gratification was expressed with the results of the Summer School and those who took prominent part in it were heartily thanked. A strong committee was- appointed to mature proposals for the future conduct of the school with a view to widening its influence. The reports from the various stations were all very satisfactory. At Waitotara the outlook is becomingmore cheerful. Plans of a new church for Eastbrook were laid before the Pressbytery and a committee appointed to go into the matter fully. Eastbrook was given permission to borrow an additional £SO from the New Century Fund. It was reported that the contract for the new church at Raetihi had been let and that Mr D. McKenzie was meeting with much successs. Messrs Ryburn and Morton were appointed to meet the Taranaki Presbytery to discuss common-work. From Taihape, Utiku and Rewa, satisfactory accounts of worE- wore received.
Mr Loan was appointed to Kewa for another year and great' satisfaction was expressed wifelL his work. Mr Loan was given power to celebrate baptisms and marriages. The recommendations of the committee to deal with the question of Home Mission meetings- were adopted in the main. The Presbytery arranged the visitation of the following, congregations during tbs year, -§t.. Baul’s and St. Andrew’s Wanganui; ,Sffifa= kina, Fordell and Bulls. Some matters referred to - Bre&yteries by the Assembly were- also dealt with. . The Presbytery met later and. discharged some important business as Maori Mission Committee.
