In the House of Lords, Lord Sanderson emphasised that this was the first occasion on which Russia had reciprocated a desire for the settlement of a group of Asiatic questions. Lord Landsdowne held a similiar view. He remarked that he, with some exceptions, viewed the agreement'with satisfaction. Ho did not think the Convention, as regarded Persia, was favourable to Britian. neutral zone was likely to be of great advantage to Russia. The success of the Convention on Russia’s loyal interpretation. If she upheld the Convention it would consolidate peace. Lord Crewe was glad that tne judgment of the House on the whole was favourable. He insisted that the details were advantageous to both, countries and would tend towards •the world’s peace.. Lord Crewe in the Lords said that Izvalsky had handed the Ambassador a document admitting that Russia bad not denied Britain’s position in itlie Persian Gulf.
