OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting'of. the above council took place yesterday, present —Or. G. O. Wheeler (chairman), Crs Vincent, Rowling, Pearce. Reid and Corntoot. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows : H. R. Cornford (Ashhurst) comthat he had been charged 14s for poundage fees though his horses were only 14 hours and 45 minutes in the pound.—Poundkeeper to explain. Kairanga County Council, intimating that it could not see its way clear to contribute one-third cost of Grove road (not to exceed £175), unless the Oroua Council formed the portion in the Kairanga county to a reasonable width. The Kairanga Council considered 14; or 16 feet formation only a track not a road. A 22ft formation was required.— Resolved that the council regrets the third decision arrived at by the Kairanga County Council re Grove road, and would remind the council that a sketch of the proposed work was submitted, and to which the Kairanga Council did not object when promising to contribute onethird cost not to exceed £175. Under the circumstances this council will proceed with the work as let and claim for half cost under section 350, Counties Act 1886. Raugitikei County Council, stating that it would repair the eastern sloping approach to the Onepuhi bridge. R. K. Bradbury on behalf of Halcombe residents, _ requesting access to tlm Raugitikei River, as at present it was impossible to even give stock a drink, either at the river or the Rangitawa stream. The road was fenced on to the bridge, and the gate at the railway crossing was blocked.—Chairman, Cr. Cornfoot, and engineer, to make enquiries into the matter. J. B. Wither, solicitor, Palmerston North, asking for refund of ten per cent.Jcharged on Mr Shaw’s property, as no rate notice had been received by him.—To be informed that the council enforces the fine without exception. Prom the Treasury, notifying £894 subsidy under the Local Bodies’ Finance and Powers Act, 1885. Prom Messrs Elliott and Morris, complaining that they had been wrongly charged double fare by the Gorge ferryman.—An explantiou wf received from the ferryman pon tjjj matter, and the Council decided had acted rightly.
