ARBITRATION COURT SITTINGS

DUNEDIN LABOURERS’ DISPUTE. Per Press Association. Dunedin, February 5. The Arbitration Court to-day took the dispute between the Dunedin and Suburban General Labourers’ Union and the employers of Dunedin and suburbs. Mr Scott, instructed by the Builders’ Association, the Drainage Board, the City Corporation, and the Momington and Roslyu Munci*palities, raised the question of .jurisdiction, on the ground that the matter of the wage for general labourers had been dealt with when the dispute was before the Court in November, £1906. The President said the Court held that it possessed jurisdiction in the present application, which’was made by the General Labourers’ Union to fix wages. They thought, the construction to be put on the award of 1906 was that it fixed only the wages of pick and shovel men in work for building contractors and * it was therefore quite competent for the Labourers’ Union to come to .'the Court and ask for an award. Evidence was then read after which the Court took time to consider its award.-
