EMIGRANTS FROM ENGLAND.
AUSTRALIAN AGENTS’ CRITICISM. Press Association. —Copyright. Received Feb. 6 , 11.30 p.m. London, Last Night. The sixth annual meeting of the Austral Emigration Board was held at Lord Brassey’s house. Mr Tozer, Agent-General for Queensland, and Mr Collins, representative of the Commonwealth, were present. Mr Coghlan, New South Wales, and Mr Taverner, Victoria, wrote declining to attend, on the ground that the persphs the Board selected to emigrate would be unwelcome to Australia, being mostly, the failures of the town. The report stated that 389 had emigrated, almost all to Canada, where employment was found. Lord Brassey said that if the Board were properly supported it could accomplish much more. Lord Ranfurly moved a" motion pledging the meeting to support the Board in promoting the emigration of suitable and desirable persons from the United Kingdom to the colonies. He stated that no one would be sent who was unsuitable for colonial life. Mr Jenkin .South Australian Agent, said the emigrants only, needed ample pluck and a suitable start. Mr Rason, Westralia, said the type of emigrant wanted in Australia constantly varied, and each State Government muse be the judge as to suitability. Settlers for the land were principally required at present. The resolution was carried. Mr Bernard Wise, Sydney, moved a motion in approval of the Board’s workjand said it was useless to send social driftwood from England to the dominions over seas. Lord Kinloch claimed that the funds “entrusted 'to the Board were administered by men with practical colonial experience. The motion was carried.
