A FATHER’S PROTEST.
REMARKABLE SCENE AT A WEDDING. There was an unusual and extraordinary scene,at the Brighton parish church on the occasion of the wedding of a youthful couple. The ceremony had concluded, and the parties were signing the _ register wher£a loud voice, which proved to be that of the bride’s father, was heard in the church protesting that the marriage was not to be proceeded with, as the girl was under age. The father who had evidently hurried to the church, as he was out of breath, was dismayed when acquainted with the fact that, he was too late, and that the knot had been tied. The bride showed signs “of a breakdown, and while protesting that she was of age swooned in her husband’s arms. Every attention was paid to the bride, and the Vicar explained to the father how useless it was for him to object when the ceremony had already been performed. He counselled a quiet acceptance of the situation, and succeeded in restoring an appearance of peace among the party. '
