STRANGE DOUBLE LIFE.
The case in which two families claimed compensation for the loss of a husband and father in one instance and a father in the other was concluded by Judge Woodfall at the Westminster County Court. The man in respect of whom the claim was made was Henry Bodey, an electrician, employed at the Oovent Garden Theatre. Two women, neither of whom knew of the existence of the other, appeared at the inquest, at which it was stated that Bodey divided his time between his two homes, telling each woman that when he £was absent he was working at the theatre. There were four children of the marriage and four of the second alliance. The judge decided that both families had a claim tojthe £234 paid into court by Bodey’s employers under the,Work men’s Compensation Act, and divided the money as follows : —Four legitimate children, £23 10s; four illegitimate children, £22 10s; total, £180; balance, £54, to the widow. To a certain extent, added the judge, the illegitimate, children ousted the lawful issue from their rights.
