The Portuguese Cabinet has been formed as follows —Senhor Ferreira, Premier Minister of the Interior, Senhor Nunes; Minister of War, Senhor Herriques ; Minister of Justice, Senhor Menceslah; Senhor Lima, Minister for Foreign Affairs. Strict censorship is enforced at Lisbon, few telegrams arriving. Reuter’s Badajos agents report that Lisbon advices state that heavy firing was heard on Saturday evening in the western .quarter, where the barracks are situated. New York, Last Night. President Roosevelt has telegraphed to King Manuel that America is inexpressibly shocked and grieved. Lisbon, Last Night. The Czar and Czarina telegraph their heartfelt condolences. The funeral takes place on Saturday, the Bth. Meanwhile the bodies are lying in state. It is expected that hte Prince of Wales will attend the funeral. Melbourne, Last Night. Some Socialists in the French Chamber submitted a resolution|expressing Republican sympathy for the Portuguese nation, and hoping for the establishment of a regime of liberty. The President refused to receive the resolution. M. Pinchon declared that no single Frenchman could excuse the assassinations. M. Sembat, Socialist deputy for Paris, shouted, “Franco provoked the murders! ” Another Socialist declared that King Carlos met with an accident incidental to his profession. Several pleading French newspapers eulogise King Manuel’s courage in ridding the country of Senhor Franco’s senseless criminal policy and tyranny. London, February 4. Prince Arthur of Connaught, who is now in Spain, represents King Edward and Queen Alexandra at the funeral. The Navy and Army will also be represented. THE ASSASSINS. Received Feb. 5, 9.5 a.m. Lisbon, February 4, The three assassins have been identified as Luiz Lopez, formerly a commercial clerk, and later director of the newspaper Oaxana, and proprietor of a news agency; Manuel Boussia, and a Spaniard named Cordova. MARTIAL LAW AND EXILE. Lisbon, February 4. Martial law has been proclaimed. Ninety-four prisoners have been exiled to Portuguese Africa. The newspaper El Mundo states that the revolutionaries’ plans were matured in absolute secrecy. They were directed by a Republican editor, the intention being, to establish a Republic bloodlessly. Many officers and non-com-missioned officers have been arrested at Badajoz. Further stores of arms and explosives have been discovered in Lisbon. The police killed many of the attackers -of Senhor Franco’s residence. Several newspapers report that Senhor Franco has leftJPortugal as a precaution for safety.
