FIRE AT APITI.
BUTTER FACTORY BURNT. A TOTAL LOSS. (Special to Advocate.) The Apiti Co-operative Dairy Company's factory was totally destroyed by firemen Saturday. Shortly after 11 p.m. the manager saw flames issuing from the boiler, house and at once gave the alarm. The flames quickly spread, making it impossible to save the contents, excepting a few boxes of butter. Mr Falconer was unfortunate in losing all his valuable papers, some of which cannot be replaced. A loud explosion, caused through the fire coming into contact with the ammonia of the freezing machine, woke numbers of people, and a large crowd witnessed the fire. The insurances are £I7OO in the South British on building, machinery, and stock, which were valued at £3OOO. Suppliers are taking their milk to Norsewood and Ridge Road creameries, both of which are being taxed to their utmost capacity. Arrangements are being made to send the cream to Cheltenham factory.
