ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per Press Association. Auckland, January 30. At the inquest held at Waiuku on Tuesday on the body of Alfred Nealie. who was drowned at Waikato Heads, the evidence showed that the launch in which the_ party had gone outside the Heads intending to fish, was, owing to an accident th the rudder, not thoroughly under control, but the passage across the bar was considered safe by the occupants. Nealie. however, when approaching the bar, jumped up in a fright, and with an oar with which he had been assisting in steering, threw himself overboard and was drowned. The jury’s verdict was in accordance wih this evidence. William Trane Fellow, an old resident of Pukekohe, died suddenly today. The deceased had been under medical treatment for about three weeks. He was said to be suffering from the effects of an assault, and, as Dr. King declined to give a certificate as to the cause of death, [an inquest is to be held. Wanganui, January 31. A fatal accident occurred at Gonville last evening on Castlecliff branch line railway when a man named Andrew Boyle was run over by a train and cut to pieces. The train was approaching Gonville station when the engine driver noticed an object on the line a few yards in front of the engine. He immediately applied the brakes but the train passed over it before being brought to a standstill. An ' arm and a leg were severed and the body was horribly mangled. The victim was within a few yards of his home and evidently did not hear or see the approaching train.
