FOXTON RACES. FIRST DAY. There was a large attendance at the above meeting yesterday and a good day’s sport was provided. The machine handled £8358, as against £7179 last year, while 13 bookmakers paid a fee of £3O each. Several bookmakers paid two dividends. Results : FIRST HACK HURDLES, of 80 sovs; 1 % miles. Mr G. Smith's Xavier, by Tasman —Capucine, 9.13 (F. Lind) 1 Messrs Klatt and McDonald’s Mt. Cook, 9.0 (Lyford) .... 2 Mr W. Shannon’s Maidi, 9.8 (T. Pritchard) .... .... 3 Also ran: Pantaloon 11.13, Taura 11.5, The Leader 9.4, Mussen 9.0. Pantaloon and Mt. Cook held a slight lead from a bunched field passing the stand, and continued to show the way down the back. On the home bend Mussen and Xavier moved up and after an interesting finish the latter won by half a length, with a neck between second and third. Time, 2.53. ELECTRIC HACK, of 80 sovs ; 6 furlongs. Mr L. G. Bremer’s Kareroa, by St. Clements —Kohina,B.s (L. Dannahay) ... .... 1 Mr E. J. Whites’ Roseletne, 617 (T. Lowe) .... 8 Mr A. Rhode’s Golden Eagle, 8.5 (R. Barlow)'.... .... 3 Also ran: Maid of Astolat 8.6, Dear Dolly 7.11, Aotea 7.11, Greenleaf 7.10, Hillspriug 7.9, Bonnie Doon 7.0, San Lass 6.7. Golden Eagle and Kareroa together were quickest to begin followed by Dear Dolly and Greenleaf. At the 4-fur-long* post Kareroa slipped Golden Eagle and was well clear of the field at the straight entrance, and eventually won comfortably by a length. Roselethe, who finished fast, beat Golden Eagle by half a length for second place. Time, 1.15 4-5.

Waipaku, fighting hard for his : head, was in front as the field ran past the stands, with Aberration and Loiret his nearest attendants. Going down the back Waipaku got a break on her field and must have been fully four lengths clear of Aberration and Loiret at the 4-furlong post", where Signor began to move up. Half way round the bend Waipaku was still out by himself, while Signor had passed Loiret and Aberration and commenced a stern chase after Waipaku. At the distance Waipaku looked to have the race won bat Signor was fast making up lee way, and before McKay on Waipaku realised the danger, Signor shot up and won by a neck. Hutiwai made most of the running, but retired at the distance, where Seaton Dale went to the front. Pascal’s Flingot, by Musketry—Lady Isabel, 9.3 (H. Telford) .... .... 1 Mr G. H. Gharman’s Scenery, 8.7 (O. Price) .... 3 Mr A. Rhode’s Mikotahi, 8.13 (R. Nikomaru and Flingot with Mikotahi their nearest attendant were first away, and these three were at the head of affairs going down the back. Three furlongs from home Flingot streaked out on his own. Scenery was the only one to threw out a semblance of a challenge, but Flingot won comfortably at the finish by three parts of a length, three lengths between second and third. Time, 1.45. Also ran: Sherlock Holmes 8.0, Flotilla 7.10, Linkless 7.0. Flotilla led from Toa Tuhi over the first furlong, where Motoa shot up and coming round the bend was in ffont with Flotilla. At the straight entrance Waicola moved up fast on the outside, and inside the ditsance passed his stable companion, and coming on won comfortably by a length. Toa Tuhi came again at the finish but just failed to reach Motoa. Time. 1.16. DASH HACK HANDICAP, of 60 sovs; 4 furlongs. Mr W. Barleyman’s Tarina, by St. Clements—Aka, 9.0 (O. Cochrane) 1 Mr A. Barclay's Penates, 8.31 (T. Pritchard) 3 Mr J. Roach’s The Dunce, 7.9 (B. After the barrier had been twice broken by both Supplement and Windage, from a fairly even dispatch The Dunce and Tarina were quickest to begin. The former led into the straight but was soon displaced by Tarina. Penates finished fast, but Tarina in a close contest secured the verdict by a neck, with a length between second and third. There was a record attendance, including Sir Joseph Ward. The sum of £31,060 passed through the totalisator, as against £35,355 last Anniversary Day. Fifteen bookmakers were licensed to bet inside and twenty-two outside. Some good racing was witnessed. The Stakes produced a keen contest between Flleetfoot and Armlet, The Palmerston North owned Tangimoana won the principal event, the Racing Club Handicap, fairly comfortably.
