HUNTERVILLE.
From Our Own Correspondent. On Friday evening a very successful meeting of those interested in the resuscitation of a sports gathering took place. A sum of £lB odd was guaranteed by those present (some 20), and as this leaves the townand district practically untapped there is no reason there" snould not be a most successful meeting on the 25th March prox. (the date fixed). The programme will be out shortly. Last Saturday night recalled the nights of many years ago. The town was full, as were some of the citizens, the unfortunate result hetwo were called up before the Feuch on Monday on the charge of fighting, creating a disturbance or being drunk and disorderly. The upshot was that J. Shapleski and Baird were fined £1 each, which was promptly paid. On Wednesday the quarterly Gun Club shoot takes place, and as there .are some 18 nominations the match should be interesting. On the same date the Mangahoe holds its annual sports gathering, to finish with a dance. The nights being cool the lads and lasse= of the district will h?vc chantfe of enjoying them (►selves. , Talking of coolness I hear Taihape gardens were ruined by last Friday night’s frost as were the pumpkin, marrow vines and French beans of many of those here. Friday morning, I bear, brought from the railhead two or three car loads of unfortunates who had, owing to insufficient accommodation, been compelled to spend the night in the cars. One has only to make a slight effort of imagination to picture the physical state of people coming from Auckland and the Hot Lakes and in summer garb with most probably no rugs, having to endure the cold of Ohakune on Fri- • day night last.
