THE ASIATIC QUESTION.
Press Association—Copyright. Received Jan. 20, 9.16 p.m. London, Last Night. At the National Liberal Club banquet, Mr Winston Churchill, Undersecretary of State for the Colonies, referring to his travels, said he was astonished at the beauty, fertility, and resources of the countries visited. He did not dispute the right of the Transvaal and Australia to make what arrangements they .thought necessary in respect to Asiatic immigration; it was entirely within the authority deliberately conceded them by the House of Commons. He hoped the nation and Parliament would honestly try to grasp the colonist’s point of view and to tanderstand their difficulties. .Mr Churchill suggested that the equatorial provinces of Africa might supply a compensating field for the colonisation and enterprise of British Indians.
