LABOUR LEAGUE CONFERENCE.
Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The-annual conference of the Political Labor League affirmed “That the principle of the right to obtain work should bo extended to every citizen, and that it be the duty ox the State to provide work for every citizen who applies for it. ’ ’ It was resolved, “That the Government provide free doctors and medicine for the people. ” It was moved and carried amidst applause, “That the Old Age Pension Act be amended by increasing the pensions to at least 12s per week, and making it payable at 60 years of age, and unconditionally in all respects except as to time of residence. ’ ’ A motion by the president to revert to the original plank of the League’s platform regarding laud reform was negatived by 7 to 4. It was resoyled, “That this conference condemns the action of the Minister of Education sanctioning the flogging of girls. ” The incoming executive was empowered to appoint a colonial organiser to organise the workers throughout the country in the interests of the Political Labor League. It was decided that the next conference be held at Auckland next Christmas.
