INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS.

Seven thousand were present at the opening of the Indian National Congress at Surat, including 2,000 delegates. Extremists interrupted the speakers, who were counselling moderation in regard to local matters. A tremendous uproar followed the nomination of Arabiuda Ghose as President, chiefly on the part of the Bengalese. Ultimately the sitting was suspended. STORMY SCENES. POLICE CALLED IN. Received Dec. 28, 7.40 a.m. Bombay, December 27. To-day, Tilak, an extremist, moved an amendment to Ghose’s election as President of the Indian Congress. A free fight ensued, the platform was rushed, chairs and tables broken and tiie splinters used as weapons. Many persons were, injured, and the police were called in. The Congress closed in the wildest disorder.
