SURF BATHING.
SEVERAL LIVES LOST. Press Association —Copyright. Received December 28, 10.10 a.m. Sydney, December“2S. Several lives have been lost during ithe holidays while surf-bathing along the coast. The undertow is particularly dangerous at Newcastle, where two nurses at Newcastle Hospital, named Quayle and Bertram, were carried away. A man named Martin gallantly brought both ashore, but Qnayle was dead and Bertram in a critical condition and unlikely to recover. Two men were almost lost in a -similar way at the same spot an hour later, but were rescued in a state of collapse.
