FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting was held last night., Present: The M&yor (Mr J. B, Trewin), Ors. Gobbe, Fitzherbert, Tolley, Goodbehere, Atkinson, Richmond and .CORRESPONDENCE, i From E ,J. Manning, aksing to bo allowed to lay an inch and a quarter water pipe to.his dwelling, and Mr Roberts to connect with it.— Granted on conditions to be laid dowfi by water committee. From Walter A. L. Bailey, consenting, as ex-Mayor, to supply a photograph of himself to hang in the Council Chamber. ’From 0. J. D. Skinner, asking for right, to cut grass on unformed roads in the Borough.—Granted, and to any ratepayers. From General Manager of Railways, stating that Department buildings had been connected with sewer with consent of Council, and Department was not liable to pay for the privilege. The Mayor said other Government departments in the town paid for use of sewers. —General Manager to he asked to state what section of the Act he relied on for right to connect with sewers without payment. From Gorton & Son, asking for permission to load water on to their paddocks, outside of Borough, free of charge, in consideration of their having allowed Borough sewers to be laid across these paddocks free of ch arge.—Gran ted. From Geo. Garrett, A. G. Wilson, and A. E. Patterson, Wellesley street, wishing to have their properties, which are outside the Borough, connected with water supply.— Referred to Water Committee to report. From A. H. Atkinson statingthat contract had been let to construct Highfield road.—Works Cominitte to report. The Engineer reported that the' time for completing the Kimbolton road metalling contract had expired,. It would take six or seven weeks tocomplete * the work. It regard rolling the metal, he had two offers from traction engine owners to use on the road at £2 per day. Council to find coal, and £2 10a, the owner to;find coal, respectively. The rodecking of the Kiwitea bridge would be finished by the end of the week. There was only one tender~in for protection of North road, namely £73 6s which he considered excessive/as the Council was to supply the piles, which would bring up the cost to £IOO. The installation of the chilling was being proceeded with at the abattoir. The acting-Town Clerk reported that £6l I4s had been received jip to the present for supply of water outside of the Borough, It was decided to give Rink Bros., contractors for metalling Kimbolton road, six weeks extension of time. The Engineer was instructed to hire a traction engine to press the metal on the Kimbolton road. It was decided to call fresh tenders for protective work in North road after the New Year.

The Engineer was asked to give an estimate of the cost of widening the Manchester street bridge, and repair the present.decking.

It was decided to divert storm water from Kimbolton road into the Makino stream by means of an. underground 9inch pipe, at a cost of £34.

On recommendation of the Works Committee, it was decided to support the ranger in the enforcement of the by-laws.

The Abattoir Committee was re-

quested to present a report with schedule of prices for sale of ice and storage of meat etc. It was resolved to charge in advance for removal of <Hight soil in future.

The Engineer was directed to visit Root and Sherwill street before nest meeting with a view of preparing plans for surface drainage.
