Rounthwaite reported that ho had. in company with Mr Robinson of tho Roads Department, inspected tho Poliaugiua bridge and ifhev were of opinion it would bo Uv'isablo to re-ercct a new span on _w,e site of the one broken, bat the ibatmeut should be upon a pile foundation as tho papa bottom was not to be relied on. It would be necessary to deflect the river towards the central span by means of a erovne and it should bo done as soon as possible/ It would be advisable to use new timber for the new span. -Plaus to be prepared for repairs by next meeting. Owing to Mr Cameron not finishing his fencing contract on To Awa Branch road ho ,the engineer) had had tho necessary ffork done and it was now complete. men were at work on this road removing slips. Some discussion took place as to tho advisability of making foxglovo I and winged thistle noxious weeds. Cr. Handloy was of opinion that winged thistle was a menace to farmers iu the district. Cr. Howie was of opinion that there was no danger from this thistle as it died out in about threo years. Decision [irrvs deferred until next meeting. I It was decided to apportion the (receipts of the heavy traffic license Between the Tamaki Riding £64, and the Umutoi £32. It was resolved that Mr Rounthwaite bo instructed to prepare working plans and specifications for London's bridge., plans to bo sent to this office as soon as possible. The Chairman stated that last year £IOO had been placed on the Estimates from the funds of the Mangaoue Riding towards the cost of widening Pinuis' track to a dray road. The estimated cost was £3OO. It was anticipated another £IOO would to placed on the Estimates this year, and as a portion of the road passed through the Pohaugina Riding he i wished to know whothcr the Coun - cillor for that Riding was in favour 'oftho work being proceeded with. -Mr Brown pointed out the importwee of this road.—-Cr. Oliver said k was prepared to vote one-fifth of 'fie cost out of the Pohaugina Riding funds.—The Engineer was instructed to employ a surveyor to have the road surveyed as soon as possible. It was resolved — That Mr R. S. Rounthwaite be instructed to proceed with the drawing up of plans and specifications for the re-erection of the broken portion of the Pohaugina bridge, to be ready hv January meeting. "That tenders bo called for the delivery of 500 yards of metal on the Makiekio road from the top of BrookI tag's hill to TJtuwai, tenders to be iu Vnext meeting. The Council held a special meeting aud struck a special rate of 1-32 of a pennv in £ iu tho Marton block bridge special rating area, to pay intcrest on a loan of £6OO.
In the ordinary meeting it was decided that the dog tax as usual be | 2s lid for sheep, cattlo aud rabbit dogs aud 10s for all others, and that tenders be invited for the post of dog tax collector, applicants to state amount per dog required and Council to supply collars. That, the Engineer be instructed to expend a sum not excedding £2O on Reid's line. Apiti. That tenders be invited tor tlio supply of dog collars, to be in by next meeting.
