THE LITHGOW IRONWORKS.
CLOSING DOWN. Press Association—Copyright. Received Dec. 9, 0.51 a.m. Sydney, Dec. 8. Tho latest development at the Lithgow ironworks is that a notice was posted to-day that all departments of the works, with the exception of the blast furnaces and the iron mine at Carcoar will bo closed down tomorrow. This will throw idle 1750 men, and directly and indirectly affect 3000.
A deputation, representative of all classes at Lithgow, waits on the Premier, Mr Wade, to-morrow to urge tho Government to take steps to prevent the disaster threatening tho town by tho stoppage of tho works.
Recoivod December 9, 10.7 a. in Sydney, December 9,
The Commercial Banking Company* officially informed the Premier thatrthe bank could not accept Parliament's terms for advancing money to Lithgow ironworks. Mr Sandford also wrote to Mr Wade that tho bank had called upon him to jiay tho full amount of the overdraft. An officer of the bank takes possession to-day and the whole works except the blastfurnaces will be closed. There is great anxiety at Lithgow, as practically tho whole town is dependent on the works. It is hoped that Government and Parliament will come to tho rescue and prevent works closing.
