G HORTICULTURAL ...™™L-' I It was the opinion of competent ! judges that there was a good collection'of vegetables shown yesterday, considering the rather backward soring, especially in peas and potatoes. " The cabbages exhibited were backward as were the lottucs. Both rhubarb and fruit were good, the cherries narticularly, grown by Mr Worsfold, being worthy of mention. The exhibit of flowers was good and the judge yens particularly pleased with l-lie number of collections and the excellence of the varieties of sweet peas. The diauthus exhibited by Mrs C. Fitzherbert was a choice flower, and of the pausies, both of those awarded first and second class were splendid exhibits. The Sweet Williams put in by Miss Barry were very noticeable. The first prize 1 poppies shown by Mrs Gorton were unusually good, as was also Miss : Barry's amaryllid. Mrs Barton's exhibit of antirrhinums was worthy of the first prize. There was a very good collection of cut flowers, but 1 one of the best had. to ba excluded " from competition owing to there being too many flowers. There was a t good variety of roses, also of pot 3 plants. The exhibits of bouquets, decorated mautels and tables showed ; a great variety end displayed the good taste of the exhibitors in a high ■ degree. Four gardeners added to • the beauties of the show with their floral exhibits and there was an ex- • hibifc of carved panels, picture frames, also a few paintings from ■ the. Feilding Technical School. > There was a, fairly good attendance of visitors during' the afternoon and • more during the. evening, when a pleasing musical programme was : rendered.
