McAlister won the toss from Fane and sent Hartigau and McArtney in, Fioldcr and Ely the bowling. The score slowly mounted to 88. Then Hartigau drove the ball back to Brauiid who had relieved Blytho and the batsmau retired. Tarrant came iu and hit Braund for a couple and then tapped him high to leg and was caught bv Humphries. McAlister filled the vacancy. McCartney by good cricket knocked up 42 when ho drove Braund back and was caught by the bowler. Armstrong followed and hit Braund for six and was then stumped by Humphries. The score at luncheon adjournment was 4 for 92.

Ruus continued to came slowly and tho first conturv was hoisted by McAlister cutting Fielder for 4. After an hour mid tliree(in;irters' play McAlister and Gregory brought the total to 137 when the latter went across to Blytho, who was bowling vice Crawford, and was out Ibw. Redgrave joined McAlister and the pair added 21! runs when McAlister hit Brauud upijto Fielder at mid off and who accepted the chauco. Hayes joined Redgrave ami the scoring became brisk.
