WOODVILLE J.O. MEETING. ' ' . FIRST DAY. The summer meeting of tlio Woodville Jockey Club, which started yesterday, was held in most delightful weather, a new experience for the club. A large and representative crowd of people, were present, and speculation was brisk. No bookmaker availed himself of the privilege of paving £2O each for himself and clerk, but the totalisator results were very satisfactory. The sum or £12,229 was put through, which is £2393 better than the corresponding day last year. Results: — MAIDEN PLATE, 0 furlongs. Mr James Macara's Lochiela, by Merrie England—Warnote, 8.9 (F. Laugstouo) .. .. 1 Mr J. T. Jameson's San Jose, 8.11 (Broadneld) .. .. 2 Mr F. Tilley's Contour, 8.10 (W Price) 3 Scratched: Rongokako, Ikon, Lamsdorf, Commander, Whititora, Ru, Caron. Contour led iuto the straight but succumbed in the run home to both Lochiela and San Jose, who were separated by only half a length after a good finish, with Contour a similar distance away. Time, 1.16 4-5.

Going down the back stretch SV, 'Amelia went to the front and was' out by herself on the turn. She was only there on sufferance for Taura quickly stetlod the argument, eventually winning very comfortably by three longths. Half-way down the back straight Gleuullin forged to the front but on the home bend Xangimoaua went out in front again aud as they came on to the straight entrance, Gleuullin, Polyanthus and Moral in that'order were nearest the leader. Moral was the only ope from whom any flange? threatened to Taugimoaua. The latter, however, stalled off the determined challenge and won bv a good length while Nova, who finished fast, got to within a neck of Moral. Tim?, 2.8
