COURTS.
Per Press Association. Wellington, November 29. At the Magistrate's Court to-day Archibald McNab was charged with stealing in May last .£lls from David Sutherland, a deaf nmte. The latter disappeared from his" lodgings and his body was subsequently found in Wellington Harbour. Chief Detective McGrath said thero was not the slightest suspicion that the theft was in any way connected with Sutherland's death. Sutherland, was discharged from prison in May after serving a month for habitual drunkenness, and when disshargod had a cheque for .£lls and £o in notes and gold. Evidence was called to show that the accused and a man named Hinds were seen with Sutherland, and it is alleged they took the money from him. When the body was found there was only one penny in the pockets of deceased's clothing. The further hearing of the case was adjourned till Wednesday. '"'The'case-in whiqh Pollock is bringing private prosecution against Beeson charging him with slander was not finished when the Supreme Court rose for the day. Beeson was a local preacher employed in a bicycle shop. He charged Pollock, a Civil servant with seducing a girl and then illusing *her when she became his wife and .ill-treating another girl. Subsequently he made similar charges frorri the pulpit. Pollock was discharged after some enarury had been made. Beeson pleads justification.
