Two members of Kiwitea County Council yesterday, Messrs Short and Carman, iu the former’s motor car travelling towards Kimbolton, met the Kiwitea County Council horse drawing the Kiwitea ConnciPs big camping waggon. Instead of swerving off at sight of the motor car this horse made his protest by jumping almost in front of it, with the result that the whole brake power of the motor had to bo applied to _ avoid killing the animal, bo great indeed that one of the tires of the motor car \Yas injured. The horse then bucked the wagon in the drain and broke the shaft.

Shortly stated, Mr limes replied that tho Council cannot give auy ratepayer permission to erect a fence on the road line according to tho’decision of appeal in ro Selwyn County Council except the edge of a formed road with a view of the protection of tho public over portions of the road, which if left unprotected would he dangerous to the public using the road.

At Palmerston Arbitration Court Messrs Sollitt Bros, were fined £l, R. P. Jenson £3, the Mauawatu Fibre Co. and the Maunder Manufacturing Co. £3 for employing men at less than the award wages. 1' or employing a non-union driver, &. C. Lane was fined £3 and costs.
