SUBMARINE WEDDING.
New York, September 12. n The record for “freak weddings” was broken to-day by the marriage of Mr George Eairman.Jof Brooklyn, and Miss Alberta Mitchell, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, in a diving bell iu 14ft of water. Both the bride and tho, oridogroom, us well as the officiating minister aud other occu pants of tho diving bell, wore bathing costume, the bridal “dress” being of blue with rod and white trimmings. The bride wore an mdiarubber cap instead of the conventional wreath of orange blossoms, explaining afterwards that the water would have disarranged her hair, which had been “done” for the wedding journey. The ceremony was performed at noon bv tho Rev. W. D. Hughes, of the Coney Island mission, in tho presence of as many members of the Hippodrome Company as could gob inside the diving bell. After the ceremony tho clergyman aud tho witnesses dived under the bell aud swam to the surface, while i tho bridal couple ascended in the bell without getting their clothes wet Tho wedding breakfast followed at a neighbouring restaurant.
