TE WHITI'S SUCCESSOR.
Press Association. New Plymouth, November 20. [S The Taranaki Herald's representative at Parihaka wires that a mass meeting of Natives discussed for several hours the question of the future of the settlement. The general opinion seemed in favour of Charlie Waitara, Te Whiti's son-in-law, being placed at the head of affairs, in preference to Willie Te Whiti the prophet's son. Waitara, who is said to have private income ' of £5,000 a year, lias long had virtual control of Parihaka. It was eventually decided that he be asked to continue as the head man of the settlement. Willie To Whiti, however, is the real owner and might cause trouble by evicting the inhabitants. This is, "however, considered very unlikely. Natives continue to arrive for the tangi. " King" Malmta was invited but no reply lias yet been received. Preparations are being made for the funeral according to old Maori customs, which will provide a spectacle eclipsing anything of the kind yet seen or ever likely again. Probably it will take place early I Friday morning. . There is no sign of .liquor m the settlement. Te WJiitiites and Tohuites are freely mixing, having sunk their differences.
