WANGANUI CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
Tho usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs W. Ritchie (in tho chair). R. K. Simpson, T. B. Williams, J. E. Sicely, B.- P. Le'fU : bridge, C. 'J. Wray, and D. Fraser. L The bank book showed a credit balance of £-10 18s fid, I A letter was received from Rangitikei County Council, stating that owing to the proximity of the annual election, It was unnecessary to nominate a successor to Mr Georgotti.—Received, No Visiting Committee was appointed. The secretary was instructed to invite tenders for annual supplies. Tho monthly meeting of tho Wanganui Hospital Board was then held. The names of Misses Janet Neilson and Anna Dierks wore placed on the probationers’ list. •' Tho Chairman’s recommendation that the salary of the electrician |W. Hartwell) bo increased from £l3O to £I-W per annum was adopted, Bto increase to take effect as from December Ist.
The House Surgeon reported that }0 wore treated at the hospital daring the mouth, 59 were admitted, 69 discharged, six died, and 55 re* inaiued in the institution on November Ist. There wore ten cases of accident, one of scarlet fever, one of diphtheria, and 1 required surgical treatment under anaesthetics. The House Surgeon reported that Miss Edith Wilkin had commenced duty as sister.
The annual report of tho InspectorGeneral on tho Wanganui Hospital was as follows;—The Wanganui Hospital is a well-managed institution of modern typo. Some minor alterations arc about to ho made in tho theatre; a high-prossnro steriliser is talked of. Considering the excellence of fho hospital amt site Jtf tlih district, it is a wonder more snrgorv ‘is not done there. Like many other hospitals, it is somewhat handicapped by chronic cases. Dr. Fergus lias succeeded Dr, Orawofrd fts resilient surgeon. The former gild Miss McKenna (the matron, Who seems a' particularly capable Woman) are very keen to improve matters, and 1 have no doubt this hospital will soon take its proper place.”—Mr Williams expressed tho opinion it was very satisfactory to think that tho Wanganui Hospital medical staff wore able to treat their cases without recourse to surgery.This sentiment was echoed by other members present,
