The facilities for instruction have been much extended lately, and will in duo course bo made more inclusive. . All officer has also hccui'i-ocently appointed to superintend rifle clubs alone. There arc one hundred and ‘ uiuetv rifle ranges in the Dominion, with a large number of targets on some of thorn. The school-cadet movement is controlled by the Department of Education. The con- ( cessions made at present to defence rifle clubs arc in increase of free ammunition up to one hundred and twenty rounds annually, while each member is allowed to purchase one hundred rounds at the very reduced price of 5s per hundred, and the issue of free railway passes to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rifle Association and also for competitions in districts up to one hundred miles. Members are also allowed to earn a marksman’s badge. Clubs,_ in addition to a course of class-firing, drill at least once quarterly, and submit to discipline on rifle range. They are also allowed to purchase arms at hare cost. £IOOO annually is voted for the expenses of the New Zealand Rifle Association, and many rifle clubs now compete; £l5O is also voted for competitions in various centres of the Dominion open to the public, at winch rifle clubs and public school cadets may compote. £SOO is about to be expended in obtaining champion belts for competition. The capitation of defence cadets has been raised to 12s Gd ; and an addition annual allowance of fifty rounds free ammunition granted. Muuiicpal bodies have now. under section 361, of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1900, legal authority to encourage rifle-shooting.
